Roots
Installation

“Roots” is conceived as a return to origin, an intertwining of two worlds that have shaped Alvin’s identity from the very beginning: entertainment and art.

In 1998, still a child, he entered the newly launched Italian Disney Channel as a live TV host. It was his first encounter with an audience, with the stage, with the energy of communication. An experience that never faded.

For over twenty years he lived on stages, behind microphones, inside clubs, across radio waves. That rhythm, that urgency for connection, that emotional tension became his roots.

Alongside this, art ran in parallel. Sometimes silently, sometimes violently, but always present.

“Roots” marks the definitive meeting point of these two paths.

The work originates from a two-dimensional intuition: more than fifty dripping red hearts, drawn side by side on a white page, touching, vibrating. Three circles are then carved into this surface: the silhouette of Mickey Mouse. A round face, two round ears, the most iconic shape of childhood imagination.

All hearts falling outside these curves are erased. What remains is a constellation of hearts forming an immediately recognizable figure, softened at the edges where the circles have eroded it.

From this drawing comes the leap into space.

The installation takes shape as a suspended composition of transparent nylon threads descending from the ceiling over an area of approximately 4 square meters. Each thread supports a group of dripping hearts, laser-cut in red mirrored methacrylate, 0.5 mm thick, with dimensions ranging from 8 to 13 cm.

Suspended in precisely calculated positions, the hearts form three floating spheres: one large sphere for the face (2 m diameter) and two smaller ones for the ears (1.20 m diameter). Together they occupy approximately 6 cubic meters of space, allowing the silhouette to appear in the air like a three-dimensional constellation.

The figure reveals itself only when the viewer steps back and allows the mind to connect the dots.

Each heart is pierced on the right side and intentionally tilted, like all of Alvin’s iconic hearts: imperfect, off-axis, alive.

Each element is numbered, transforming the installation into a collection of 1,608 unique pieces. A single monumental artwork composed of individual stories. A system of fragments that finds meaning only within the larger design.

Each collector holds a part-one of the work, an individual fragment , where the whole exceeds the sum of its parts.
